With an RCS Store Card, you can buy the ingredients you need from Checkers, Pick n Pay or Shoprite and treat yourself to an at-home pamper session targeting these three common skin concerns.
Not just your favourite cooking spice, Turmeric (Curcuma longa) has long been valued for its many anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidants and its ability to help even skin tone. If you have issues with hyperpigmentation, make this budget-friendly face mask by adding turmeric to plain yoghurt which also contains zinc to help regulate your skin’s sebum (oil) production, as well as B vitamins that help hydrate the skin and promote skin regeneration.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
1 Teaspoon of turmeric powder
1 Tablespoon of plain yoghurt
In a small bowl, mix your turmeric and plain yoghurt together. Cleanse your face to ensure the mask is applied to clean skin and apply the face mask. Allow the mask to dry before rinsing it off. Finally, apply moisturiser to your skin.
The skin may have a visible yellow tint after use of the face mask as turmeric does stain your skin when used topically, but worry not, the tint will fade. It can also easily dye and stain other surfaces so be careful when handling it.
Apply the mask 3-4 times a week for best results.
Who doesn’t love glowing skin? You can achieve that youthful glow we’re all dying to achieve by adding moisture which plumps and hydrates the skin. Honey is one of nature’s best humectants, meaning it has the ability to draw and retain moisture from its surroundings, whilst avocado is loaded with vitamin E which protects against free radicals (pollution, bacteria and sun exposure) that damage the skin, causing collagen loss and eventually, ageing. Get your glow on with a honey and avocado face mask.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
2 Tablespoons of raw honey
Simply mix your ingredients into a bowl and apply the face mask to clean, dry skin. Rinse the mask off once it has become firm and dry. Pat your wet skin semi-dry with a clean towel and apply a moisturiser to lock in moisture.
Apply the mask 1-2 times a week.
We all hate breakouts. Your DIY weapons for this: oatmeal and baking soda. Oatmeal is both calming and restorative, and commonly used as an ingredient to treat eczema due to its concentrated anti-inflammatory properties. Use it as a mild exfoliant to unclog pores and clear skin of excess oil and bacteria by rubbing it in circular motions. Baking soda helps balance your skin’s pH through its alkalinity, while it also helps contain your breakout with its anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
2 Teaspoons of oatmeal
1 Teaspoon of baking soda
1/4 Cup of water
Mix your ingredients into a bowl and only add enough water to create a paste out of your ingredients. Apply the paste to your skin as you gently rub it in a circular motion. Allow the paste to dry and rinse it off with warm water before applying a moisturiser.
Apply to skin once daily when necessary.
