Since her debut on M-Net Idols SA as a multi-talented, plaid-clad teen, Shekhinah has rocked the stage with her incredible voice and unique sense of fashion.

Not only is Durban-born Shekhinah a tremendously talented vocal artist, but she also knows a thing or two about dressing for success. Now you can too, with an RCS Card in your wallet. Sure, you know your card gives you up to 55 days’ interest-free credit on every purchase, but did you know you can also use it to access cash? Find out more.

With her debut album hitting platinum, Shekhinah’s name is on everyone’s lips. We’ve loved watching her style mature from tomboy to chart-topping songstress, and we’re crazy about the aesthetic she’s arrived at. So what sparked the transformation?

“I used to be such a tomboy,” the singer told Danni Bowler of Superbalist. “I was really into the huge DC sneakers with a tongue that has colours all over it, very colourful skinny jeans, and T-shirts. Moving to Joburg, the culture of fashion is intense, whereas in Durban, you go to work however you go to work. I was truly inspired by living in Auckland Park, to switch it up.”

Never has a gal looked this good in gingham. "I chose the dress because I could see that I wasn’t going to have restrictions around the areas of my body that I have issues with,” Shekhinah explained to Superbalist.

Gingham is a hot trend this season, with dress styles made to suit a variety of figures. If you’re digging the look, it’s easy to get it for yourself. For daytime, the Odessa check linen dress (R799, Poetry) ticks all the boxes – unless you prefer pants, in which case the Kingsley check pair has your name written all over it (R699, Poetry).

And for night-time? We’re already swiping our card for the must-have check shirt dress with corset detail (R499, Foschini). Edgy, spicy and just a little bit naughty – we’re totally in lust! You can even take the look all the way to your toes with the adorable Hazel frill slip-ons (R249 or 2 for R350, Cotton On).

…AND 5, 6, 7, 8… 90s!

In 2018, ’90s accessories are where it’s at – like Shekhinah’s mouthy moon bag. If you haven’t quite wrapped your head around wrapping your bag around your waist, the good news is that you have options. Stash your RCS Card in your cute Katia saddle bag, available in black, blue, blush and tan (R199) or swanky Ava ring-handle saddle bag in black, blush, Persian blue or cherry red (R249, both Cotton On). Why not swipe for a range of shades and have a bag to match every outfit?

Top the look with a stylish hat, and if you’re in the mood to splurge, we have just the thing: the super-cool Frankie felt fedora (R399, Cotton On). Or, keep it equally stylish but gentler on your rands with an elegant wide-brim hat with chain detail (R250, Foschini).

Shekhinah may have graduated from plaid to gingham, but our girl still loves a good pair of sneakers. “I got Reebok Classics and then I kind of mixed them with this dress,” she told Superbalist, proving that you can indeed build your outfit from the bottom up.

Our sneaker collection is getting out of hand (or should that be foot?), but we just can’t stop ourselves – especially when it comes to Reebok’s Women’s Club C 85 Nubuck in millennial pink (R1 299) and Workout Plus Low (R1 499, both Sportscene). We’d be tempted to swipe for both if we didn’t need a little extra for the to-die-for Special Forces AF1 by Nike (R2 299, Superbalist), but for everyday wear, a pair of classic mid-top white sneakers (R399, Foschini) will do the trick in a pinch.
