When is a pizza not a pizza? When it’s made on a pita bread… like in this brilliant cheater recipe. These pizzas are seriously easy to make – so they’re the perfect base for an interactive, do-it-yourself foodie party. Invite some friends over, and give the recipe a try this weekend. Kids especially will enjoy putting this together, so be sure to make the prep work part of the party.

The genius of this recipe lies in its simplicity. Instead of toiling away trying to get the perfect pizza base (not too thick, not too thin), you get the pita bread to do the hard work for you. From there, you add the topping mixture, and you’re pretty much ready to go! It’s a great option for easy lunches and weekend snacks.

Roll out a large sheet of brown paper on the table top and lay out all the ingredients for the perfect pizza party – that way, after the party is over, clean-up will be a breeze!

Of course, you’ll need an oven for this. If you don’t have one in your kitchen yet, it’s really time you made the move. HiFi CorpMakro and Game are all on RCS shopping network, and all have great deals.

1 tin whole peeled tomatoes

1 large garlic clove, peeled

1 tsp dried oregano

Salt and black pepper, to taste

6 store-bought pita breads

100g mozzarella cheese, sliced

200g baby tomatoes, halved

Fresh basil, to garnish

In a blender, puree the tomatoes, garlic, oregano and seasoning. Slice the pita breads horizontally to form two rounds. To make the pizzas, spread one pita half with the tomato sauce, then top with the mozzarella cheese and few baby tomatoes. Preheat the grill of your oven to as hot as it can go. Slide the pizzas under the grill for 5 to 7 minutes or until golden and bubbly. Garnish with the basil leaves and serve immediately.
