Our favourite fashion bloggers give us some advice on how to wear the latest velvet trend.

“Muted or jeweled, pleated or crushed, the velvet trend is going to be red hot this winter,” predicts style blogger Tamlyn Jacobus of Painting in Pink – and we’re inclined to agree.
We’ve taken style tips from some of our favourite bloggers to put together velvet looks that we love – and everything is available from stores with the RCS shopping network. Check it out below, then let us know on Facebook which your favourite look is.
START WITH THE ACCESSORIES
If you don’t feel confident enough to wear a whole velvet garment, just start with the accessories, advises style blogger Candice Bresler of La Belle Blog. “If you're still finding your feet with trying to style it, I'd suggest going for smaller, accent pieces – perhaps velvet boots, velvet trim on a scarf, or a jewel-toned velvet handbag.”

PICK PIECES THAT WORK WITH THE REST OF YOUR WARDROBE
When choosing new garments to add to your wardrobe, “…stick to deeper shades because they are most likely to go with every item you own,” recommends fashion blogger Mpho Ntlatleng of Fitted Muse. She recommends colours like charcoal black, emerald greens and bold reds.

KEEP IT SIMPLE
“Velvet can be hard to pair with other styles if you don’t know what to look for, so keep the styling simple,” advises Ntlatleng. She recommends combining your velvet item with other more simple fabrics to balance the rich texture.

PICK MODERN COLOURS
Rocking this trend has a lot to do with your colour palette, says fashion blogger Rushda Behardien of RuBe’s Closet. “If you’re scared of looking like a 13th century royal, grab pieces in the latest colours such as nude, dusty pink, mint green, golden yellow or even in a dramatic animal print.”
