Say goodbye to rainy day smudges, and learn how to waterproof your beauty look in time for those South African summer thunderstorms.
The dream: a doorman with an oversized black umbrella shelters you as you prance from your car into your office block with a perfect blow dry and immaculate make-up. The reality: you run from the station to your office with your handbag over your head, stepping in a deceptively large puddle on the way before ducking into the ladies loo to find your make-up on the run.
Now we can’t give you a doorman, but we can give you these handy tips to make the dream more of a reality.
START WITH PRIMER
It seals your pores and makes your skin look smoother and softer. But one of the main functions of primer is to make your make-up last longer so it’s the perfect shield against the elements. The best part is that there are no shades to choose from, primer works with any skin type and any skin tone.
KEEP IT LIGHT
If you know you’re going to be doing touch-ups at work, keep your look simple and your products even simpler. Your rainy day essentials are:
Tinted moisturiser: It offers coverage for a fresh face and it’s light so you don’t have to worry about blotchy foundation. Tinted moisturiser is ideal for dry skin and you can apply it quickly and easily with your fingers.
Mascara: Apply a light coat at home and another coat when you get to work to keep it looking fresh. Start at the root of the lash and zigzag up to brighten the eyes.
Good quality lipstick. A berry colour lipstick will add glamour and finish off your look. Better yet, choose a product that doubles up as a lipstick and a cream blush.
TIP: Always apply your lipstick before your blush, so you’re less likely to overdo it on the cheeks.
PACK A KIT
Keep an emergency kit in your handbag. Include your three main beauty products for quick touch-ups, earbuds, a travel-size bottle of make-up remover for smudges and a hydrating face mist for a fresh, dewy look. For extra protection from the elements throw in a huge pair of sunglasses à la Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
