There’s plenty of sport on the menu this weekend, and – thanks to this spicy snack recipe – most of the action will happen on the wings.
It’s game time! Between soccer’s European Championship and rugby’s early-season Test matches, you’re going to be spending some quality time on the couch, cheering on your team. (And that’s before you even start with the Olympics, Formula 1, tennis, cricket, and so on…)
Add some spice to your sports-watching snack menu with these mouth-watering chicken wings.
Chicken is a great source of protein, while chilli contains up to seven times the vitamin C levels of an orange, and has a wide range of health benefits.
Chief among them: it helps to prevent sinus congestion – which is exactly what you need to fight off a winter cold.
24 chicken wings, tips trimmed2 cups hot chilli sauce of your choice1 cup flour4 tsp paprika1 tsp ground black pepper1 tsp salt2 eggsOil, for frying
Bring a medium saucepan of water to the boil. Add half the chilli sauce to the water. Add the chicken wings to the boiling water and simmer gently for 20 minutes.Remove the wings from the pot and drain well. Toss the warm chicken wings in the remaining chilli sauce and coat well. Allow to marinate for 1-2 hours. When you’re ready to serve the wings, start heating the oil.In the meantime, mix the flour, paprika and spices together in a large container.Whisk the eggs in a separate container. Working with a few wings at a time, coat the marinated chicken wings in the flour, then in the egg and in the flour again.Fry the coated wings in hot oil until golden and crispy.Drain well on paper towel and serve with extra spicy sauce on the side.
