Superfood is one of the big buzz words in nutrition right now. These are foods that are rich in nutrients and have an array of health benefits. Sounds good, right?

The best part is that you can combine them in delicious ways to create drinks that are out-of-this-world good.

It’s no secret that ginger is incredibly good for you. Beetroot is also a wonder-food that is known to boost your body’s ability to exercise, amongst other things. Add some yummy honey and rose water, and you have a latte that is super healthy and delicious!

1 small beetroot, peeled and cubed

¼ cup (60ml) water

1 cup (250ml) almond milk

½ tsp rose water (optional)

1 tsp (5ml) honey

½ tsp (2.5ml) ground cinnamon, plus extra to serve

¼ tsp (1.25ml) ground ginger

Dried rose petals (optional), to decorate

100g fresh or frozen raspberries

To make:

Place the cubed beetroot and water in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend well. Pour the mixture through a sieve to strain out any pieces. Place the mixture in a pot over medium heat, and whisk continuously until foamy and warm. Pour into a cup and decorate with dried rose petals, if desired.

Turmeric is a wonderful spice. It tastes great and is full of antioxidants (which are very good for you). Add to that, all of the vitamins and minerals found in coconuts, and you have a winner of a latte.

2 cups (500ml) coconut milk

½ tbsp (7.5ml) turmeric powder, plus extra for dusting

1 tsp (5ml) honey

½ tsp (2.5ml) cinnamon

1 tsp (5ml) coconut oil

To make:

Combine all the ingredients in a small pot and place on a medium heat. Whisk continuously until the mixture reaches just below boiling point – this should take about five minutes. Serve immediately in a mug and dust with extra turmeric, if desired.

Activated charcoal, you say? That’s right! It’s all the rage right now, and for good reason too. This stuff can actually improve your immune system and help out your digestive tract. Put it in a latte, along with all these other yummy and healthy ingredients, and you’re onto something magic.

3 cups (750ml) almond milk

1 tsp (5ml) activated charcoal

2 tsp (10ml) vanilla extract

2 tbsp (30ml) honey

To make:

Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until creamy and frothy. Pour into a small saucepan and heat to just below boiling point, while whisking continuously. Serve immediately dusted with extra activated charcoal.
