Fashion makes extra demands on the fashion-focused during this season. The summer weather of South Africa and the large array of fun-filled party events, have many running around malls trying to keep up with the latest trends while on a budget.

You don’t have to worry about looking outdated this festive season. I won’t toot my own horn, but this fashion blogger is going to give you the lowdown on all this season’s best trends – and if you’re lucky, where to conveniently find them.

In linen I trust, and I cannot wait to step into the cool white of the linen pants and cotton dresses that line my classy wardrobe. The all-white colour theme is back, and many are glad for it. The colour is always an easy find in comfortable fabrics, with shops like Queenspark and Cotton On – both of which are part of the RCS Shopping Network – stocking trendy stretch-waist linen pants, jumpsuits and cute dresses… which you can wear even beyond the festive season.

Heritage day may have come and gone, but the hype of wearing traditional African-themed clothing has not worn off. Don’t limit your umbhaco (traditional Xhosa ensemble) to a ceremonious celebration. Local and international women have been finding stylish new ways of wearing their formal and traditional items – with iqiya (headdress), multiple traditional cultural prints and chunky beaded necklaces making a statement from the beachside right to the board room. Accessorize has some great scarfs to style into headdresses.

It’s the festive season, and everybody and their mother will likely be looking out for colourful jewel-tone or threaded bling that has been trending from runways to streetstyle. I love styling up my bikinis with dramatic pieces, and the Wanderlust ring tassle necklace is going to be my beach style staple. Luckily, I can stay ahead of the masses (except for Bonang Matheba, because she really does get everything fashion fresh first) with SA’s most coveted Pichulik necklaces, available from Superbalist (from R149).

If you ever need a festive gift idea guys… well let me tell you what I’d like wrapped in a big red bow – new luggage! Anyone who keeps up to date with the Instagram posts of travelling fashion bloggers, knows that we spend half of our time trying to fit our entire wardrobes into mismatched bags for our trips – whether across the city for a shoot, or across the world for a story. There is nothing that says stylish quite like matching everything just right – and that’s why matching luggage sets – like the ones from Makro – are one of this year’s best gifts.
