Dress your couch up in one of three completely different, completely stunning on-trend styles
So you’ve swiped your RCS Card, and you’ve bought a couch. Great! Now comes the tricky part: getting your home décor right, so that your couch works with the overall look of your lounge. Our décor experts took one couch – the comfortable Bergen two-seater (from R6 495, Coricraft) – and dressed it up in three different, on-trend styles.
The couch and all the accessories listed here, are available from retailers on the RCS shopping network. Swipe your RCS Card today, and get a lounge you’ll want to come home to.
Look #1: Good morning, sunshine!
This fresh, summery look is all about the yellow/turquoise and yellow cushions (R399, Loads of Living) and the patterned rug (R2 599, Loads of Living). Notice anything? Yup, that pop of colour from the yellow really catches your eye – and it’s the key to the whole look. The bright yellow stands out because it’s an accent, and not the dominant colour.
The dominant colour in this look is duck egg, a blue-green subtle pastel shade that’s seriously on-trend at the moment. The duck-egg shade really comes through in the pouffe (R180, Game), the pendant dome (R999, Loads of Living), the throw (R599.95, Whitehouse Linen) and the buffalo journals (A6 R99.99, A5 R149.99, both at Typo).
The other accessories – from the 25cm conical vase (R149.99, Pick n Pay) to the mug (R20, Home Etc.) and the funky decorative pineapple (R25, Typo) – bring some character to the room, but their muted shades let the yellow do all the shouting… and that’s why this is such a soothing, inviting space. The white side table (R2 000, Home Depot) and the lovely canvas print (R1 999, Tafelberg Furnishers) finish the look off beautifully.
Look #2: Copper perfection
Hard to believe it’s the same couch, right? To warm up a cold interior space, dress your couch up with red, earthy tones. Again, the rich colours of the mauve throw (R349.95, Whitehouse Linen), the rug (R1 649, Tafelberg Furnishers) and the gorgeous blossom cushions (R150 each, Builders Warehouse) do all the hard work, while the accessories make the room come to life.
Have another look at those accessories. The Venus lamp table (R2 295, Coricraft), Mars lamp table (R1 495, Coricraft) and cushion (yellow/grey/white, R195, Coricraft), along with the rose gold waste basket (R549, Loads of Living), pendant metal lighthouse (R1 199, Loads of Living), copper candle holder (R99.95, Clicks), copper underplate (R49, Home Etc.) and the lantern (R539, Home Etc.) and white pillar candle (R110, Home Etc.) all share the same copper shades.
This time there’s no bright pop of colour; instead, the reds, golds and purples all work together for an overall effect. The accessories – including the 27cm footed hurricane (R149.99, Pick n Pay) and the pink mug (R89, Home Etc.) and milk jug (R179 with sugar bowl, Home Etc.) – round off the look.
Finally, the clean space of the wall pulls the copper theme through beautifully with the wire frame (R100, Typo) and photo corners (R99 for 12, Typo). Want to know where the framed artworks come from? They’re from you! Those are pages torn from a Between the Lines Leaftopia colouring book (R199.99, Typo).
Look #3: Be bold with blue
Finally, we’ll end off with an interior look that brings in a delightful African theme without going overboard. So often you’ll see people trying to do an African theme, and getting lost in a jungle of kitschy ornaments. Here we’ll bring Africa home simply by picking the right colours.
Like the duck egg and copper in our two other looks, this look is bang on trend with that bold blue. And the blue wall is where it all starts, making the couch look lighter and letting its soft colour complement the stylish wooden wall clock (R350, Builders Warehouse), wooden lamp stand (R879, Tafelberg Furnishers) and lampshade (R329, Tafelberg Furnishers).
From there you’re calling out the blue through complementary colours like the teal burlap cushion (R120, Builders Warehouse), the teal ombre cushion (R150, Builders Warehouse) and the navy blue and turquoise throw (R349.95, Whitehouse Linen), along with – of course – that stunning rug (R2 599, Loads of Living).
The accessories do the rest, from the Ghana tray set (R718, Home Depot) to the Vicenza navy bowl (R399, Home Etc.), the Kavali lamp table (R2 995), Maya lamp table (R2 695), Cairo candle hurricane (large R250) and the printed scatter cushion (R175, all from Coricraft).
To top it all off, you’ve got a pop of colour coming from the quirky Middleton occasion chair (R1 135, Home Depot).
