Super stylish blogger Jade Robertson of Just Jade blog runs through what you need to tackle varsity in style
Being someone that spent about seven years of my life at varsity, I feel that I am more than qualified to give advice on the essentials one needs to get through a few semesters like a pro.
The first thing on my list would be a heavy-duty shopper that can hold all those heavy textbooks. You need something that you can count on to hold books, your laptop, lunch, water, emergency make-up kit and your stationery. You can find these at places like Accessorize, Foschini and Aldo. Look for something stylish, that you won’t get tired of, and good quality so that it can hold everything you need it to.
If you have a cool beauty kit, then you for sure need a cool stationery kit. You’ll need to keep it simple though – you don’t want to be carrying a massive stationery case around with you the entire day. Essentials include a stationery bag, a few pens, two or three pencils, an eraser, ruler, calculator and a diary to keep track of your homework and deadlines. Everything you need can be found at Pick n Pay, Typo and CNA.
My second essential is a beauty kit. This should be a little bag with everything you might need on an everyday basis, or in an emergency. Include tissues, lip balm, hand sanitiser, tweezers, a compact mirror, feminine hygiene products and a tiny bottle of perfume or spray. This way you’ll stay fresh, despite running all over campus to make your classes. You’ll be able to find everything you need at Clicks, Pick n Pay or Spar.
My last essential would be a comfortable pair of sneakers. Find something that’s neutral and goes with most of your outfits. There are days when you’ll spend more than 12 hours on campus, so you want to be comfortable. Adidas is my go-to brand when it comes to comfortable sneakers. My favourites are the Tubular Viral style in clear granite (regular price R1 499, current sale price R899).
